Meet young aspiring singer Lucy Packer

Lucy Packer, 17, from Warwick, was only young when she realised her vocal talent.

Originally from Essex, Lucy moved to Switzerland at the age of three where she lived with her family for nine years. Between the age of 7 and 10 years old she tells me  her voice increasingly became a big part of who she was: “I only sung around the house and in the shower at the time but my family and friends always use to tell me that I was good so I began recording myself and realised that I wasn’t that bad! She said.

“I have received a lot of support from my family and they really believe in me when it comes to my singing.”

Lucy launched her own solo career three years ago by posting her music on her own YouTube channel. She has become very popular with her online audience since starting out, with more than 10,000 views.

Lucy has done many covers of artists over the last three years, such as this recent recording Lucy did especially for Radio Warwickshire:

Lucy’s channel has helped her grow in confidence and has acted as a base for feedback as a way of improvement: “A lot of people have offered me advice, which I have taken on board. I also get a lot of song requests so I try and do as many of the songs that people ask me to do”, she said.

Lucy was 14 years old when she sang publicly for the first time at a school charity concert.

“I was asked to sing and I was very nervous  but I did it and absolutely loved it”, she said.

“I haven’t yet done any gigs, I’ve really wanted to do them and I have asked a few places if I could sing in pubs but it never really went any further than me asking.”

When I asked Lucy what singing means to her she told me: “I’ve been singing since I can remember, it makes me feel amazing and the one things that makes me most happy.”

Lucy is inspired by the likes of Ed Sheeran:”I love the fact that his songs are written about things that have happened in his life. That is how I want my music to be, I want every song to mean something and to be able to connect with people through music.”

Today Lucy is looking to break out of the confines of singing around the house and in the shower and achieve that confidence boost that has sometimes acted as a barrier.

She has in the past auditioned for Britain’s got Talent and plans to audition for the X-Factor next year and post more videos on YouTube over the coming months to get herself out there.

“Gaining in confidence would be great for me and it would mean that I could perform better as a singer and I would also enjoy it more, but it’s always good to be a little bit nervous, that’s the fun of it sometimes!”

Aside from her stunning voice, I asked Lucy for a fun fact about herself: “I can speak fluent German and was brought up bilingually with English too.”

Lucy tells me she is planning on going back to college next year as something to work towards: “If I’m completely honest I haven’t figured out what I want to do you yet, but without a doubt singing feels natural and right.”

By first impression Lucy seems shy, but closing your eyes and listening to her voice, there is no doubt she is one to watch! Check out her channel below.
