Johnny Normal

Johnny Normal

Who are you?

I am a radio presenter, musician and performer, having shared a stage and recorded with many lovely superstars including Tenpole Tudor, Blancmange, Nash the Slash, Altered Images and Peter Godwin. I have been supporting Adam Ant on his incredibly successful UK tour dates since 2010, performing to audiences of up to 3000 people. On my radio show I have been lucky to interview members of PiL, Republica, Visage and many other of my music idols.

What is your role at Radio Warwickshire?

I am a radio presenter and producer for The Johnny Normal Radio Show, which champions unsigned synthesiser-based acts from Warwickshire and beyond, along with iconic electronic bands from the early 80’s to today.

What do you like most about community radio?

Interaction. Well we can’t have radio without the listeners. They are number one. Whether it’s on a local or global scale we are all brothers and sisters and we need to tap into everyday life, connect with our audience and feed off their reaction to what we create, enabling us to make more interesting and engaging programmes.

Which bands would headline your fantasy music festival?

Good question… I would love to see Soft Cell, Gary Numan, Ultravox, Visage, Blancmange, Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, PiL and OMD all on the same bill… with me of course 😉

I would maybe have Eddie Izzard and Stephen Fry as MC’s.

What would you name the autobiography of your life?

Probably “Lucky Blighter” or “Can this be Normal?”

When you have 30 minutes of free-time, how do you pass the time?

Easy one… Headphones on, songwriting and recording.

What’s the #1 most played song on your iPod/MP3 player?

Its a funny one… Gary le Strange:  “All I Ever Do is Sit in My Room” . I am a big fan of Gary’s wonderful parodies of Bowie, Soft Cell, Numan, Ultravox, etc.

The Johnny Normal Radio Show

The show brings you innovative quality music from fresh unsigned and iconic signed synthesizer-based acts. You will also hear competitions, gig news, new releases and interviews with some pretty interesting synth people too… The show is every Wednesday night from 8 – 10:30pm.
