Linying – Alpine

Untitled-30-640x360

Stand aside for the Queen of Sadface Jams. Singapore’s Linying already had us enthralled with her first track, and now here she is becoming our new fave peddler of alt-pop slow-jams on Alpine. “Honestly leave it be to make my pitiful peace that I was something else before,” she sings, “Giddy in the morning tearing through the columns at the grocery store”. At once we’re rubble, and in love with this lady all over again.

La Femme to release new album ‘Mystère’ in September

la-femme

After breaking through with their debut album Psycho Tropical Berlin in 2013, Parisian krautrock and psych-punk outfit La Femme are set to return with a new album this year.  Mystère is set to be released on 2nd September via Disque Pointu, and will feature a wide range of guest vocalists as well as production from Sonny Dipieri of Animal Collective.  The record promises to be even more psychedelic than their first LP, with a focus on stark electro beats.

The band have already shared two songs from the collection already.  ‘Sphynx’ is a hypnotic mix of pulsating beats and light synths with some typically French chanson vocals, while ‘Ou Va Le Monde’ is a quirky number whose melodies take inspiration from The Shadows and Ennio Morricone.  Watch the video for ‘Sphynx’ below.

Nouvelle Vague announce new album ‘I Could Be Happy,’ new EP ‘Athol Brose,’ and an upcoming tour

nouvelle-vague

Cult French covers band Nouvelle Vague are set to have a very busy time later this year. The group are releasing a new EP in September, going on tour in November and are gearing up to release a new album.  Led by Marc Collin and Olivier Libaux – and very often accompanied by a variety of talented female vocalists – their upcoming new LP I Could Be Happy promises to feature a host of punk and post punk standards recorded in the group’s distinctive new wave, bossa nova style.

For those unable to wait, Nouvelle Vague will bridge the gap with a new EP, Athol-Brose, on 2nd September.  Featuring the vocal talents of Liset Alea and Élodie Frégé, it contains a mixture of covers, remixes and original material.  The group tackle Buzzcocks’Ever Fallen in Love’ and Cocteau Twins’Athol-Brose,’ while producer and singer Dream Koala remixes the band’s take on Joy Division’s ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart.’

Athol-Brose’ has also been chosen to help tease I Could Be Happy in a new, short video.  The teaser trailer shows clips of Liset Alea and the band rehearsing and later recording the luscious cover at the Studio Saint Germain in Paris, giving a taste of what to expect from the record.  Watch below.

Just Watch: Honeyblood – Ready For The Magic

Honeyblood Words: Gary Feeney One of the finest acts to emerge from Glasgow in recent times, Honeyblood are back with Ready for the Magic, the first single from their long-awaited second album Babes Never Die, and on this evidence they’ve returned even better (and louder) than before. A distinctly heavier song than anything from their … Continue reading

Prints Jackson to release new single ‘Sail on Phaelon’ featuring Jim Ward of At The Drive In

prints-jackson

Kristian C Williams, also known as alt-indie artist Prints Jackson, is on a mission to release a song a month until he dies.  Having previously written music for video games, film and television, Williams is using this ambitious project as a way of being able to experiment with a variety of sounds. It’s also giving him the opportunity to collaborate with other musicians.  The vast majority of singles in the series has featured a guest musician, lending even more diversity to Williams’ works.

Sail On Phaelon’ is his latest effort, due for release on 8th August.  On it, he’s joined by two cult alt rock icons, Jim Ward of At The Drive In and Ward’s Sleepercar bandmate Gabe Gonzalez.  It’s an anthemic slice of indie rock but with an ethereal electronic opening and production that moves between stadium sheen and lo-fi splendour.  There’s more to this single than just a sing-along chorus and power chords, with more layers of sonic depth revealing themselves in time.  Listen below.

Right, there’s no disputing that sibling duo Ardyn are a) amazing, b) only really getting started. Their new song The Valley continues the road of melancholic alt-pop they’ve paved so well, with Katy Pearson’s coos being more haunting than ever as they roll in nostalgia. Check out the video below.
